Good Food Guernsey
Guernsey's islanders have an enduring passion for food and this is reflected in
the remarkable concentration of first-class restaurants, bars and cafés on the island.
With Norman roots, seafaring heritage and bountiful sea, the perfect gardening climate
and wonderful Guernsey milk, Guernsey is a food-lovers paradise.
St Peter Port, the island's capital, is home to the majority of restaurants, but
there are plenty of opportunities for fine dining and exquisite culinary experiences
elsewhere on Guernsey. On the west coast the locals' best-kept secret of fresh fish
and chips and chilled local cider is thoroughly recommended, as are the Guernsey
cream teas and the legendary, towering 12-egg sponge cakes of the North West.
Of course fresh local seafood is a highlight of Guernsey and a range of superb seafood
dishes can always be found in the restaurants throughout the island, never more
than a stones-throw away from the hotel accommodation, and often with-in the hotel
restaurants.
Cuisine from many international cultures are also represented in Guernsey, giving
you a huge choice of eating experiences. French, Greek, Spanish, Italian, American,
Thai, Indian and Chinese establishments can be found throughout the Island, as well
as a recent influx of other cultures such as Portuguese and Latvian, offering even
more variety.
Good Food Guernsey was created to harness the local delicacies and create popular
events and exhibitions on food that would appeal to visitors and locals alike. Providing
support to a number of events, these include including the ever-popular Tennerfest,
La Fete d'la Mair, (the July Seafood Festival), and the Guernsey Restaurant Promotions.
